We have expertly trained doctors, registered flight nurses, and experienced pilots on call. Our aircraft fleet are all fully equipped with full ICU capabilities and are CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) registered.

6 Learjet Aircraft

Fitted with large 36 inch cabin doors ideal for allowing the safe transfer of patients and loading of medical equipment on and off the aircraft, including Neonatal Intensive Care Humidicribs. The jets are also configured with a single Lifeport stretcher system and full ICU capabilities, with enough space to carry two medical crew and 1-2 traveling companions.

7 King Air B200 Aircraft

Long been considered the best fit for air ambulance work worldwide, we have 7 King Airs in our fleet, two of which can be equipped with single and dual Lifeport systems and configured with full ICU capabilities. The King Air B200 has an outstanding safety record and the fully pressurised cabin allows for smooth flying conditions.

Shane Gifford
Founder & Managing Director

A licensed aircraft engineer and pilot with more than 25 years industry experience, Shane’s passion for aeromedical transport began with his aircraft maintenance company Formula Aviation, before opening Medical Air in 2013. Medical Air has become a passion and life direction for Shane whose mission is to provide the best, most compassionate and cost-effective bed to bed service possible.

Dr Robert Liddell
Medical Director

An Aeromedical Physician with more than 30 years’ experience, Robert has worked as the Medical Director for organisations such as International SOS, AEA International SOS, Dan Air Services London, Aviation Medicine for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Australia, and Royal Flying Doctor Service WA. Rob is also a licensed Airline Transport Pilot with more than 7500 flight hours under his belt.

Michael O'Grady
Aviation Manager

Michael is an experienced aviation management professional combining broad management skill with specialist aviation operations, contract management and aircraft MRO. Michael brings to the team a wealth of knowledge from his many years of senior management positions within oil and gas sector, aeromedical, government, geoscience, and MRO sectors.

Dr Rik Hagen

Flight Doctor

Dr Rik Hagen has over 32 years experience as a medical doctor. He has been employed in the Emergency Department of St John of God Hospital at Murdoch WA for over 20 years, and has also worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service for over 8 years. With a special interest in motor sport medicine, Dr Hagen is the FIA World Rally Championship Deputy Medical Delegate for Asia and Oceania.

Dr Barney Cresswell

Flight Doctor

Dr Bernard (Barney) Cresswell is a Specialist Anaesthetist with extensive experience in Paediatric Anaesthesia. He has spent over 30 years as a Visiting Consultant to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, plus 4 years fulltime in the RAAF and a further 22 years in the RAAF Reserve. Barney has also been an anaesthetist in volunteer teams working overseas in hospitals in India, Indonesia and Tanzania over a period of 30 years.

Natalie Goldman

Registered Flight Nurse

Natalie began as a nurse more than 30 years ago; she has worked in critical care including ICU, CCU, Cardiac and Vascular Catheter Labs, ED and maternity areas, in Perth, Toowoomba and Hobart. She is also a Remote Area Nurse with qualifications in health professional education having presented at the CSANZ and AERA conferences.

Claire Warwick

Registered Flight Nurse

Claire is a critical care nurse with 10 year’s experience and is passionate about Aeromedical retrieval. Her expertise lies in the management of complex care patients, including adult, paediatric and neonatal.

Maria Granados

Registered Flight Nurse

Maria Granados is a Registered Nurse with over 18 years of experience in both Emergency and Intensive Care critical nursing. Having worked in several countries around the world has given her the insight into the demands in multicultural nursing. Since commencing with Medical Air, Maria has taken to her new role of flight nurse with passion and excitement and prides herself on providing her patients with the highest standard of care and professionalism.

Yuliya Slater

Registered Flight Nurse

Yuliya has been registered for 9 years with 8 of those spent in emergency department, which she loves and enjoys the diversity and the variety it presents in her role. She also has some surgical, medical and perioperative experience.

In 2012 Yuliya was invited to become a guest speaker for the gifted and talented education program and has developed her own "Fun First Aid" program for children in years 5-6, which she continues to teach.
